Machines are something that reduces human efforts! Really?
All our life we hear that machines are making our life easier and, it did as well in many ways. On the other side as the saying goes, “nothing comes free, everything comes at a cost”. The easiness to use electricity comes at cost of climate impact, using vehicles at cost of pollution, luxuries cruise at cost of sea life destruction and so on. At times easiness to reduce physical efforts comes at a cost of mental efforts. For instance, the recent invention where you can monitor your home appliances from distance. Undoubtedly it is bang on. It helps to save on electricity in case of human err to forgot to switch off the button. However, we forget that it too comes at cost of being lazy to monitor while leaving home and checking while on the go/office/meeting., etc. Doesn’t it bring in extra effort on mental health? It does! All we can try is to optimise on using resources to live healthy life and in turn help planet survive longer. Mental health if not less is at par with physical health.
P.S.: The article in no way under-emphasize the vital role machines and technology play to make our everyday life better. It just throws importance of using resources carefully.
